Recognizing the achievements of its members is an important part of the mission of the IEEE. Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients for one of the Institute's most prestigious honors. Dr. Cloonan will become an IEEE Fellow effective

As ARRIS CSO, Dr. Cloonan is involved in the architecture and planning of next-generation CMTS/EQAM systems, as well as providing company-wide guidance for many different cross-business unit programs being carried out within ARRIS. Dr. Cloonan joined ARRIS in 2001, when the company acquired Cadant®, Inc. where he was Architect and CTO responsible for designing and developing networking systems and leading development of the C4® CMTS product line. Prior to his work at Cadant, Dr. Cloonan was a Technical Manager and Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at
Dr. Cloonan holds more than 20 U.S. patents and has written more than 80 articles for technical publications and conferences. He received his Ph.D. from
